Educational Background & Teaching Experience

Dr. Jon started his educational career with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Mathematics from Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster Pennsylvania. Since he was very interested in the medical field, Dr. Jon took a job at the Polyclinic Hospital in Harrisburg PA where he trained as a Respiratory Therapist. After one year he went to the University of Chicago Hospitals & Clinics where he completed his formal training in Respiratory Therapy. Subsequently, Dr. Jon was accepted into the Graduate Ph.D. Program in Physiology at the Medical College of Wisconsin (Formerly Marquette Univ. Medical School). There he completed his Ph.D. in Pulmonary Physiology in 1980. Initially, he took a job as a faculty member of the Northeastern University Baccalaureate Program in Respiratory Care.


After two years he accepted an offer at Lifemark Cardiopulmonary in Houston TX. as the Director of Education. When Lifemark was sold in 1984, Dr. Jon took a job as a faculty member at the University of Texas Houston Health Science Center. In 1993 he transferred the entire Respiratory Education Program (Faculty, Students, and Equipment) to the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. After 30 years of teaching, he Retired in September of 2014. In December of 2017, Dr. Jon was honored by the University of Texas System with A Lifetime appointment as Professor Emeritus.
